Any one interested in (or aware of) the business of silk accessories would have heard of Mantero Seta, and its undisputed position in the silk business. To have a private tour of Mantero’s private production facilities would be something quite unimaginable even to some of the largest silk retailers.
That, however, is what the team behind neckties.com.sg and Azthom had the privilege of doing. During our recent buying trip to Florence (at the recently concluded Pitti Uomo 92), we made time to visit some of our friends and ties suppliers in Como. And Mantero Spa was first on the list. Founded in 1902, Mantero Seta remains family owned and is currently headed by Mr Moritz Matero, 4th Generation of the Mantero family.
In true Italian gentleman style, we were greeted by Mr Moritz Mantero soon after we entered the premises – not a minute later than planned. With hugs and Italian cheek kisses, over a cup of espresso doppo, the gentlemen began catching up about family and life.

Mr Mantero spent the next hour giving us a private tour of his production lines and his family’s archives. At every point, he took pains to explain the various types of weaving technique they use to create some of the most luxurious foulard, scarves, ties, pocket squares and even silk curtains!

Sean and Timothy "examining" some of Mantero's century old archives!
Along the way, we discussed Azthom’s future collections with Mantero, got a exclusive preview of next season’s designs belonging to the largest fashion houses.
But most of all, we were in awe by how such an influential (and busy) CEO made time to catch up with his Singapore friends – an epitome of an Italian gentleman.
